41. Are there any books you feel have shaped you as a writer?

I had to think about this for a whole day, but honestly I can’t say that in terms of literary style I’ve ever been called to emulate anything, though I’ve read some damn amazing fanfic that has helped shape me in terms of how I compose a story. @gefionne continues to inspire with her ability to world build and pay attention to close details, @nerdherderette reminds me to use ALL the senses in my writing, @hollyhark has really helped me navigate alternating POV fics that I feel really work for my stories, @jinxedambitions ‘s fics have helped me feel less inhibited about writing those kinks I might otherwise not have shared (or even known about HELLO). The list could go on. And on. This fandom is stunning and inspiring and I love you guys.

[Rec List]: Brooklyn AU – Storm Passes Away

When the Storm Passes Away: Jim Farrell, still reeling from Eilis’ departure for Brooklyn, meets a tall, dark, and mysterious stranger on the beach. This is Jim and Ben’s origin story, their mythology, how it all began.

All I Ever Longed For: When Jim met Ben Organa on Curracloe Beach, he never thought his life would change so dramatically. Now, Jim can’t imagine his life without Ben.

A Good Forever: Ben has swept Jim from Enniscorthy to London, to Paris, and now to Italy. In a small town on the Amalfi Coast, Ben has planned a fun-filled surprise for Jim. This is a short but sweet holiday fic that is actually meant to be a three part story (but I’ve only written two of the three parts, and only posted one).

My Heart Is Waiting: Jim and Ben are home from their holiday in Europe and are settling comfortably into their lives together. Everything is wonderful, until it isn’t. Jim’s world nearly falls apart again as Ben is summoned home to Manhattan.

Love in My Arms and the Sun in My Eyes: With Ben finally home for good, everything is right in Jim’s world. One day, a mysterious letter arrives from Manhattan and this time, the summons is for the both of them.

Into the Woods, Over the Midnight Moon: It’s Halloween in County Wexford. As Jim and Ben drive home from Dublin, they encounter a strange phenomenon in the Wicklow Mountains.

All the Days of My Life: Jim and Ben celebrate Christmas in Enniscorthy. They have two weeks to themselves with nothing to do but cuddle in bed, decorate the house, attend parties, and make some life-changing decisions. Just your typical holiday season.

jinxedambitions:

Hux manages the day-to-day running of a luxury train. When one of the personal attendants gets violently ill during the journey, Hux takes their place in the private cabin of the infamous Kylo Ren. Essentially locked in a small compartment with a madman for the coming days, Hux thinks he may lose his mind. Ren’s bizarre demands, coupled with his ability to make a mess of even an empty room, wear Hux’s professionalism thin. When Hux finally snaps, he accidentally discovers a whole other set of desires Ren has. [ao3]

#2 and #22 my lovely!

2. Where is your favorite place to write?

I basically can only write snuggled in my nest (my bed). I have my laptop on a computer tray on top of a pillow, I’m surrounded by pillows, and have my lamp on.

22. Tell us about the books on your “to write” list.

Well, I bet I’ll never write an actual book, because it’s just now in my skill set, I don’t think, but I do have an original fic idea that has been growing alongside me since I was a kid. It’s very detailed (to the point I can’t keep up with it) and I’m…not great at world-building. Maybe someday?

As for fics I have planned! Other than the ones that are working right now, I have an AU where Ben is a reckless young surfer, and falls for the hot older lawyer Hux, who gets him out of trouble when he burns down his Uncle Luke’s barn. 😉

21 and 26 for the writers asks if you like.

21. What aspect of your writing are you most proud of?

–I’m like, the worst person ever at saying I’m proud of anything, but I guess I’d have to say that I try to write people with realistic flaws, people that fuck stuff up, people that struggle with being human, and I think I capture that pretty well?

26. What’s the most research you’ve ever put into a book?

–Actually, Gravity Well??? I’ve spent three hours researching random stuff about politics to inform one paragraph. I actually got a compliment on my research on AO3 the other day and kind of wanted to cry. It’s really rewarding, though, with Wookiepedia, even though it’s VERY DISTRACTING. I have found so many little tidbits that have expanded my plot, helped me create some nifty NPCs that I’m excited about. The research for this story feels like getting to sit down in a cool library and gather a lot of books around me and read for the fun of it. The ideas just flow. 🙂
